weightless, grateful
rise like embers
from my chest of flames
dance me out that door
like a spark
into heavy rain
outside world’s
so frightening
hide me underneath
your razor blade tongue
I’ve got my music
don’t need my head screwed on
shadows on my skull wall
how do you get
through the lonely days?
blast my cobwebbed throat
I’ve got all kinds of suffering
to celebrate
keep your easy ride
keep your eyes fixed
on white goods and mod cons
I’ve got my music
don’t need my head screwed on
there lies love
there lies a love
violent enough
on paper you’re an exile
and I am poor as sin
we’ll be criminals
come Christmas time
prisoners come spring
stay free inside your flesh
there’s a breath
lifts you up
to where you belong
I’ve got my music
don’t need my head screwed on
there lies love
there lies a love
violent enough
to shake your ribcage
shake your ribs to dust
Kris, this is a fantastic record. I don’t normally get as excited over best of’s, but this is so well done. New versions of already excellent songs, bringing new perspectives and some excellent new songs to boot. I highly recommend it; anyone that’s thinking “naw it’s just a mash-up of existing songs”, it’s definitely not - buy it, you won’t regret it. poolo
Well gosh, Boo. That really is an album!
The first time through was wonder and delight. Now it’s just a matter of installing it into my DNA. And so repeat play is engaged. You’ve done it again! warren wigutow
Inspired by John Carpenter’s 1974 film “Dark Star,” the beautifully moody songs on this LP present a voyage into the unknown. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 21, 2021
