weighed down by all there is to lose
I was dying for some tenderness to bruise
to throw a lasso round a fake chalk moon
and pull it down for Mary
behind the fiction of that love
all dead eyes and prescription drugs
all waking through the nights
to pop the blood-filled bed bugs
and get sucked by kisses so weary
got to laugh at these extremes
we cut through tendons
while we cook up tandem dreams
I’ll never know what such
absurd affection means
as it fragments in memory
with a love that no one could touch
we were all over touched
you said ‘I can help you look up
if you can help me look up
see the particle dust
this is all just us
I can help you look up
if you help me look up’
you were such a dignified caged bird
you were always flying behind, flying behind your eyes
I’d race to catch you in these peasant poet’s words
but you’d be gone before I could think straight
with a love that no one could touch
we were all over touched
you said ‘I can help you look up
if you can help me look up
see the particle dust
this is all just us
I can help you look up
if you help me look up
high enough
high above
all of this’
weighed down by all there is to lose
I was dying for some tenderness to bruise
to throw a lasso round a fake chalk moon
and pull it down for Mary
Kris, this is a fantastic record. I don’t normally get as excited over best of’s, but this is so well done. New versions of already excellent songs, bringing new perspectives and some excellent new songs to boot. I highly recommend it; anyone that’s thinking “naw it’s just a mash-up of existing songs”, it’s definitely not - buy it, you won’t regret it. poolo
Well gosh, Boo. That really is an album!
The first time through was wonder and delight. Now it’s just a matter of installing it into my DNA. And so repeat play is engaged. You’ve done it again! warren wigutow
Inspired by John Carpenter’s 1974 film “Dark Star,” the beautifully moody songs on this LP present a voyage into the unknown. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 21, 2021
